Mothers Home Resident Saves Young Life

We would like to bring special attention to a resident of our home Sayeeda for her quick thinking and selfless lifesaving act. One day in December, Dominique’s son, baby DJ then 4 weeks old, stopped breathing while being nursed. DJ’s mom who is certified in CPR panicked as she saw her son turning blue. Sayeeda who is expecting to deliver in early spring quickly jumped into action and successfully performed CPR and saved DJ’s life.

This event reinforced the importance of CPR and First Aide training for all community members.
Mothers’ Home applied for a grant to aid in the cost to have every mother who resides with us be certified in CPR.As a result a $1,000 grant was awarded for CPR training. This is a great start,
but we still need your support to reach our goal of having a CPR training
program. Please help us provide these lifesaving skills to all of our residents by
sending in your donation and writing “I would like to help save a life.”

Recap of Winter Events at Mothers’ Home

As we enjoy some gorgeous spring weather, we would like to share with you a few of our successful events from the past few months:

Mothers and babies enjoyed Christmas together at Mothers’ Home. Everyone enjoyed opening up presents, eating and visiting together. Nothing but smiles were seen on the faces of these beautiful ladies!

Mothers and babies attended the Bowling for Babies event hosted by Mothers’ Home on February 11, 2012. The fundraiser was an outstanding success, with more than 200 people coming out to bowl, chat and visit. Thank you to everyone who attended the fundraising event. Your support of Mothers’ Home and our residents is nothing short of incredible, and a wonderful gift to our mothers and babies.

Another fundraising event (above), organized by Mr. Phil Ott/The (De LaSalle 590) ShowTime Guild, took place on February 10, 2012. It was held at the Oaks and attended by 190 people. Including a featured impersonator of Frank Sinatra, the fundraiser was an overwhelming success and a lot of fun! The event raised $650.00 for Mothers’ Home! There will be another fundraiser featuring a Patty Kline impersonator in June. Details to come. A big thank you goes out to Mr. Phil Ott, The (De LaSalle 590) ShowTime Guild, and all who attended the event! Your involvement makes it possible to keep Mothers’ Home running.

Welcome to Mothers’ Home! We are currently home to 18 residents and 10 beautiful babies! ( of which we welcomed four into the world this past week)

2011 bought us 17 bouncing, baby boys and 10 sweet, baby girls while we served 47 mothers.

Meet some of our family:

These mothers are just like you and I, working hard for their growing families. They have made the decision to come to Mothers’ Home and benefit from the wonderful resources we offer. With the help of donors, volunteers, and staff, all of this is possible.

We must cultivate our garden

Special thanks to Ellen Cordes and the Drexel Hill Moms Club for their work this week in sprucing up the garden in front of Mothers’ Home.

Our residents have many practical challenges to overcome in order to provide for their infants. Their time at Mothers’ Home is like tending a garden. Day by day, a little progress is made. Nothing happens overnight, but over time something beautiful grows out of the daily disciplines our residents learn at Mothers’ Home.

Today Domonique is watering our new garden for the first time.
