Mothers' Home from BVM parking lot

First Floor

Administrative Offices

Dedication, creativity and perseverance are the themes of these offices! Our dedicated staff, led by our Executive Director Don Corcoran and Program Director Denise DiTomasso work tirelessly to empower our women. Our home is so impactful to the lives of our residents due to the wonderful and tough program established to challenge and support our women. Some of the many programs available to our women are detailed in the attached Program Overview.

Living Room

Special thanks to The Creative Living Room (TCLR) for their generous donations of time and materials to give this room a design makeover! From dark and dull to amazing-THANK YOU!!

This is the informal and formal meeting place for many of our programs, including the very powerful and popular “Mommy and Me” program that encourages the bonding between our mothers and their baby!

Chapel Common Area

In 1991, during the very first summer of the Mothers' Home program, the Chapel was the only room with air conditioning. To battle the August heat, our residents got creative by placing crib mattresses along the floor of the Chapel. These first first-year moms slept in cool comfort on those very crib mattresses. In years past, the Chapel has served as a gathering place of prayer and healing for various retreats and organizations. For a time, Catholic Mass was celebrated in our Chapel as well. Ever just need some quiet space and a few minutes alone to contemplate a life decision? Our program is a tough journey through many life decisions. Mothers’ Home is a non-denomination organization but we understand the power of spirituality and encourage the mothers to utilize the benefits of the program and consider a new course and direction for both themselves and their children. We challenge our mothers to select more healthy life decisions. As a place of quiet reflection or celebration with guitars strumming and voices lifted in praise, the Chapel wonderfully serves its Mothers’ Home community.

Kitchen

As in most homes, our kitchen tends to be the gathering place for our residents. Each resident is responsible for providing and preparing their own food and cleaning up after themselves. Our kitchen set-up gives each resident space for their food and the honor system is respected. Once the conversations begin, the informal support system begins to build among our residents and continues through their shared stories and ideas for an often undecided next step.

Dinning Room

In order to strengthen our sense of community and the support system that our residents can provide to each other, our program requires that our residents eat all meals in the dinning room. This room is also utilized for many program meetings and speakers as well as many social activities (e.g., resident baby showers, birthday celebrations, etc.). Special thanks again to TCLR for their generous donations of time and materials to give this room a design makeover! From drab to delicious-THANK YOU!!

Porch

The porch provides an area for the women to get some fresh air.

Computer Room

Through generous donations of time, materials and technology we are able to offer our residents access to a fully equipped computer room. Although our hardware maybe be aging, we provide access to the internet and a printer to allow our women to participate in certain required programs, continue their education, obtain certain job-skills and/or search for employment.

Second and Third Floors

Mothers’ Bedrooms (Second and Third Floor)

Our women enjoy the privacy of their own bedroom. We provide the mothers with a bed, desk, crib, changing table and a walk-in-closet in each room. The women have access to community bathrooms on each floor but a sink in each room allows for many conveniences. The desks are critical space for our women to complete the many program requirements discussed throughout the tour details. Each resident is responsible for cleaning their room with supplies provided by Mothers’ Home. The staff at Mothers’ Home performs a regular room check to be sure that our women are maintaining a healthy and safe environment for themselves and their babies. The most beneficial purpose to this quiet safe-haven is the potential for mother and baby bonding time. Our residents are embarking on the next phase of an incredible journey and one that they will embrace together!

Please Note: We have several bedrooms in need of repair and maintenance to accommodate more of the women currently on our waiting list. If you have a desire to make a financial donation or have the energy to donate your time or materials to complete these rooms, please see one of the guides wearing a flower or contact us at Mothers’ Home at your convenience! We would greatly appreciate any donations!

Janet Brooks Apartment (Second Floor)

As noted in the program description, most of our residents remain at Mothers’ Home for three to six months after the birth of their baby. Alternative housing programs are investigated with the support of our staff so that our residents can prepare for the next phase of their lives after Mothers’ Home. Through generous donations, we have renovated two apartments within Mothers’ Home. Each furnished apartment has capacity for two mothers and their babies with a private kitchen, living room, bathroom and 2 bedrooms. Mothers’ Home program committee created the “Step Up” program to establish the criteria for admission into this program. After reviewing applications and holding interviews, we now have four residents and their babies within our advanced program.

Conference Room (Second Floor Room 20)

While living at Mothers’ Home, many of our women receive visits from several county and community representatives providing resources and/or referral services. We have provided a furnished conference room for used during these confidential and critical visits.

Lower Level

Laundry Room

As we strive to prepare our women for independence, we challenge our women to maintain self-sufficiency and self-discipline. The mothers are responsible for their own laundry including any towels, sheets, blankets, etc. that they use in their rooms.

Sharing Space

The lower level of Mothers' Home serves as a "Sharing Space," a volunteer-operated community outreach program providing clothing, baby supplies and furniture free of charge through generous donations from various church, civic and private donors. These resources are available to any woman or family in crisis or in need. Some proof of need is required for admittance into the Sharing Space in order to manage the overwhelming need for these services in Delaware County. Approximately 200 families are aided each year. Currently, the Sharing Space is open for two sessions each week. Please call 610-583-4663 Tuesday through Friday to reach a staff coordinator to set up an appointment.
